Gusar is a town at the foot of the mountains in northern Azerbaijan. It is a destination in its own right, and it is also the base for Shahdag and Laza.
How long the drive takes
About 185 kilometres and 2 hours 45 minutes.
We take the main road towards Guba. It runs flat and does not climb — the climb starts after Gusar.
Gusar or Shahdag
These two get mixed up often enough to be worth separating.
Gusar is the town. Shahdag is the mountain resort above it. The resort’s own information says it is reached quickly from Gusar by the Laza highway.
If you are staying at Shahdag, we drive you straight there and there is no reason to stop in Gusar. If you are staying in Gusar and exploring from there, this is your route.
Laza village
Laza sits up the mountain road from Gusar and is a trip of its own.
