Gusar to Baku Transfer

Gusar is where a mountain stay turns back into an ordinary drive. The climb is behind you by the time you reach the town, and from there the road home is flat and quick.

How long the road takes

About 185 kilometres and 2 hours 45 minutes, from Gusar to your address in Baku.

The route joins the main road at Guba and stays on it. There is no climbing on this leg, which is why it is easier to time than the run down from the resort.

Two roads, not one

Many travellers are not actually starting in Gusar. They are starting in Laza, or higher up, and Gusar is only the first town they pass.

That upper stretch is a mountain road, and it has its own weather. Tell us where you are really staying and we plan both parts. The figure we quote covers the whole way down, not the easy half of it.

Leaving Laza

Laza sits up the road from Gusar and is a trip of its own in either direction.

If you want the car at the guesthouse door in Laza, ask for it when you book. We check what that road is doing on your date and put the extra time in the plan. In summer it is one of the busiest places up there, so an early hour is easier.

Ski gear going home

Long gear is the one thing that ruins a departure morning.

Skis and boards do not fit a sedan. Book the minivan and tell us how many sets, counted separately from the suitcases. If you hired your gear and are leaving it behind, say that too, because then a sedan is fine.

Winter on the way down

As far as Gusar the road is a main highway and works normally through the winter. Above Gusar, on the mountain section, conditions change from day to day.

Send us your date. We tell you what the upper road is doing that morning, and if it is better to come down earlier we say so rather than waiting to see.

Flights and the far side of the city

The airport sits east of Baku, and this road comes in from the north.

An airport drop is therefore a longer job than a hotel drop. Give us the flight number and the time. We build the hour backwards from the gate, not forwards from breakfast.

Can you collect us from Laza instead of Gusar?

Yes. Laza is up the mountain road from Gusar, so we check that road for your date and add the time. Say it when you book, not on the morning.

How early do we need to leave for a flight?

The road is about 2 hours 45 minutes, and the airport lies on the far side of the city. Send the flight time and we count the whole chain back from it.

We have skis and boards to take home.

Book the minivan and tell us how many sets. Long gear does not go in a sedan, and finding that out at the door costs everybody an hour.

Is the road home difficult in winter?

Below Gusar it is a main road and works normally. Above Gusar it is a mountain road and can change. Send your date and we report what it is doing.
