Most people fly in for the snow and want to be on the mountain the same night. The plane lands east of Baku. The resort is in the north.
The length of the road
About 230 kilometres and about 3 hours 35 minutes, airport door to hotel door.
The road leaves the city, runs north through Guba and Gusar, and climbs at the end. Most of it is ordinary main road. The climb is the part that behaves differently.
Landing late and driving up
Many winter flights reach Baku after dark, and that is a normal start for this run.
Send the flight number and we watch it. A delay moves your pick-up instead of losing it. The driver waits until you come out and meets you with a name board. Nobody should be looking for a taxi at midnight with skis in their hands.
Gear counts, not just bags
Count the gear separately from the suitcases.
Skis, boards and boot bags are long, and a sedan will not take them at all. Send both numbers when you book and we send a car whose boot closes. If you plan to hire everything at the resort, tell us, because a smaller vehicle may then be enough.
The last part is mountain road
The run is ordinary until Gusar. Above the town it is a mountain road in winter.
Our drivers use it right through the season, and the cars are prepared for it. If the weather looks bad on your date, we tell you before you fly rather than at the airport. That is the point of sending us the date early.
Arriving at the resort at night
Send the name of your hotel, because the resort is not a single building.
The driver takes you to your own door, not to a car park with a map on a board. If you will arrive after reception closes, tell the hotel and tell us. It changes nothing for the car, and it saves you standing outside in the cold.
Food and children on the way up
It is a long road after a flight, and shops near the resort close early.
Ask for a stop and we build it into the plan. A pause below the mountain for food, or for the children, costs the evening very little. We have child seats: give us the ages when you book, not at the kerb.
