Leaving a ski resort for a flight is the tightest drive we run. The mountain is at the start of it and a check-in desk is at the end.
The length of the road
About 230 kilometres and about 3 hours 35 minutes to the departures door.
The first stretch comes down off the mountain to Gusar. After that the road is ordinary. The airport sits east of Baku, past the city, so this is a longer run than a drop at a Baku hotel.
Two deadlines, not one
Work back from the desk, then add the mountain on top.
The desk closes well before the plane leaves, and bag drop and security take their own time after that. The descent is the part of the road that weather can slow. We name an hour that holds all of it. We would rather set off early than drive quickly.
Winter changes the top, not the bottom
Snow on the mountain does not touch the main road south.
That is useful to know. It puts the risk in the first hour, where we can add margin, and not in the last, where a delay costs you the flight. We look at the road the evening before and again in the morning, and we tell you what we see.
Ski gear still has to be checked in
Gear that fits in the car has to pass the desk as well.
Ask your airline what it charges for skis and how it wants them packed, and do it before the day you leave. In the car the question is simpler. Give us the gear count and the suitcase count, and the right vehicle comes to the hotel.
The last morning on the snow
Some people ski until lunch and fly at night. That can work.
Leave the bags with the hotel, take the morning, and we come up for the hour we agree. Send the flight time first and let us do the arithmetic. If the two do not fit, we say so rather than drive it and hope it holds.
Where we set you down
At the departures door, with your airline and terminal named.
Tell us who in the car is flying. If part of the group goes to the airport and part stays in Baku, that is two drops and a different plan. Say it at booking, not on the road.
