Azerbaijan Visa for EU Citizens: e-Visa, Fees and Stay

Citizens of the European Union need a visa for Azerbaijan. The good news is that every EU country can use the online ASAN e-visa. You fill in a form, pay by card and receive the visa by email. This guide covers that year-round rule. It applies to a city break, a mountain trip or a future Formula 1 weekend.

Is my country on the list?

Yes, if you hold the passport of an EU member state. All 27 appear on the official list of e-visa countries. That list runs from Austria and Belgium to Spain and Sweden.

No EU state is on the visa-free table of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for ordinary passports. That table covers countries such as Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Türkiye. None of the 27 is on the list of nationalities that get a visa at the airport, either. So the e-visa is the normal choice for EU travellers.

Non-EU neighbours such as Norway, Switzerland and Iceland are also on the e-visa list. The same process applies to them.

Fees, timing and payment

The e-visa has two charges. The state fee is USD 20. The portal adds USD 9 for processing. You pay both at once. The portal takes Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay and JCB. The card can belong to someone else, such as a partner paying for two.

The fee pays for reviewing your form. It is not returned if the answer is no. That is one more reason to check each field before you pay.

Standard review takes up to three working days. You should apply at least three working days before arrival. Count working days, not calendar days. A form sent on a Friday may not be ready until the middle of the next week.

The urgent option returns an answer within three hours. It runs on weekends and holidays too. The price appears in the portal when you select it.

How long you can stay

The e-visa allows one entry. It is valid for 90 days from its start date. Inside that period you may stay up to 30 days in total. Once you leave, the visa is used up.

For a standard e-visa, the start date is at least three working days after you apply. An urgent e-visa starts on the day it is issued.

Documents: travel document, scan and dates

You need a passport or other travel document. It must be valid for at least three months after the e-visa expires. The official pages speak of travel documents, not national ID cards. Plan to travel on your passport.

The form asks for a scan of the photo page. If the system cannot read the scan, the visa is refused. Use good light and a flat page.

If you hold two EU passports, or an EU and a non-EU one, pick one. Apply and travel on the same document. A mismatch makes the e-visa invalid.

Print the e-visa and carry it with your passport. The border checks both.

If the e-visa is refused

A refusal email explains the reason. The portal says you can then apply at an Azerbaijani embassy or consulate. The embassy in Berlin lists a 35 euro fee for EU citizens. It says a decision takes up to 10 working days. Some groups are exempt from the fee under the EU–Azerbaijan visa facilitation agreement. Check the embassy in your own country for its local rules and hours.

Planning a future Baku Grand Prix

Many EU visitors first look at Azerbaijan for the F1 race. In 2026 the rules were briefly different. A presidential order signed on 25 August 2026 let race visitors get a visa at the international airports. They had to show an F1 ticket, an e-ticket or an accreditation card. The window was set from 25 August to 30 September 2026. Heydar Aliyev Airport published the same dates.

That order named the 2026 race and no other. For a later race, start from the ordinary e-visa. A new arrangement would need a new official order. If you see one reported, confirm it on an official site before you change plans.

Race weeks fill hotels and flights early. Apply for the e-visa as soon as those are fixed. Then the entry question is closed, and you can focus on grandstands and transport.

Stays longer than 15 days

Some visitors combine Baku with a longer trip through the regions. If you stay more than 15 days, you must register your place of stay. The deadline is 15 days after arrival. There is no fee. The State Migration Service sets out how to apply. The same applies when you move to a new address during a long stay.

Arrival and the first journey
