Azerbaijan F1 Visa: What Applied in 2026 and What Applies Now

Azerbaijan made a special visa rule for the 2026 Formula 1 race in Baku. It was short, and it was tied to that one event. This page records what the rule was. It then explains the ordinary entry rules that apply now, for anyone planning a later race or any other trip.

The 2026 F1 airport visa, in brief

On 25 August 2026 the President of Azerbaijan signed an order on visas for the Baku race. Under it, foreigners and stateless persons coming for the race could get a visa at the country’s international airports. The window was set from 25 August to 30 September 2026.

To get the visa, you showed one of three documents:

1. An accreditation card or other proof of accreditation from Formula One Management or the FIA.
2. An accreditation card from the Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
3. A ticket for the 2026 Baku race, including an e-ticket, or a document confirming you bought one.

Heydar Aliyev International Airport published the same dates. The visa was issued at the E-ASAN self-service kiosks in the arrival hall, before passport control. The order itself named no fee. We do not state one.

What the 2026 rule did not do

The order did not create a permanent F1 visa. It named the race held in Baku in 2026 and set an end date of 30 September 2026. After that date it has no effect.

It also did not change anything for visa-free travellers. A Turkish, Russian or Kazakh citizen was already able to enter without a visa. The race rule mattered only to people who would otherwise need one.

For a later race, a new order would be needed. If one is made, it will appear on official sites such as the president’s website, the Foreign Ministry or the airport. Treat a news headline or a forum post as a lead, not as proof.

The ordinary rules, which apply now

Outside the 2026 window, entry depends only on your passport. There are three main routes.

Visa-free entry. The Foreign Ministry keeps a visa-free table. It includes Türkiye, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, each with a 90-day period. Some other countries have time-limited visa-free periods listed there. Check the table for your own passport.

The ASAN e-visa. Citizens of the countries on the e-visa list apply online. That list includes the United Kingdom, the United States and all EU member states. The state fee is USD 20, plus a USD 9 service fee. A standard e-visa is issued within three working days. An urgent one takes three hours, even on holidays.

A visa at the airport. The Foreign Ministry’s ASAN Visa page lists 11 countries whose citizens can get a visa on arrival. It also lists some residence-permit holders in Gulf states. This is a narrow route. Do not assume it covers you.

How the e-visa works

Most visitors from Europe and North America use the e-visa. The portal’s conditions set the main points:

• It allows one entry and a stay of up to 30 days.
• It is valid for 90 days.
• Your passport must be valid three months beyond the e-visa’s end.
• You must apply at least three working days before arrival for a standard visa.
• Apply and travel on the same passport, or the visa is invalid.
• Print it and show it with your passport at the border.

The fee is paid by card on the portal. It is not refunded if the visa is refused. Visitors who stay more than 15 days must also register their address. That is free.

Planning a future race weekend

Start with the rule for your passport, not with the race. If you are visa-free, you only need a valid passport and your bookings. If you need an e-visa, apply as soon as flights and hotel are fixed. Three working days is the standard time, but race weeks leave no slack for a rejected scan.

Then plan the rest of the weekend. The Baku circuit runs on city streets, so roads close around it. Choose a hotel with a clear walking route to your grandstand gate.
