5 Days in Azerbaijan: Complete Itinerary

Five days in Azerbaijan is enough for Baku, the Absheron peninsula and one mountain place. That works once you accept the country is larger than a city break. This plan uses two days in Baku, one day for Gobustan and Absheron, one travel day to Gabala and a final return day. It avoids the common mistake of treating a long drive between cities as empty time.

Days 1 and 2: Baku at a human pace

On day one, walk Icherisheher and the waterfront. The Old City’s Maiden Tower and Palace of the Shirvanshahs give the old frame. Baku Boulevard gives you the Caspian edge. Keep the first day open if it follows a flight.

On day two, choose modern Baku rather than repeating the same central route. The Flame Towers, a museum or a neighbourhood walk all work better when they are not squeezed around a departure. Plan travel around where your hotel is, not around a generic map.

Day 3: Gobustan and Absheron

Use a separate day for Gobustan National Park and selected Absheron stops. Gobustan is known for ancient rock art and a landscape of mud volcanoes. On the peninsula, Ateshgah and Yanar Dag are possible choices. Check official visitor information before travel, because opening hours can change.

Do not promise yourself every site in one afternoon. Choose the stops that matter to you and allow time for the return to Baku. A private car keeps the order flexible, so a stop worth an extra hour can have one.

Day 4: Baku to Gabala

Gabala changes the pace after the capital. The road from Baku is a long transfer, so start early if you want time after check-in. Tufandag, Nohur Lake and the nearby mountain setting are the reasons many guests add it after Baku.

A Baku to Gabala transfer is not a replacement for a tour plan. Decide whether the next day is for the resort, the lake, a relaxed hotel stay or a return. Send the hotel addresses and luggage details when you ask for travel.

Day 5: Return with room for reality

Use the fifth day for Gabala, the return to Baku, or an airport departure. The right order depends on your flight time. Do not set a tight airport connection against a long road with no margin for traffic, weather and breaks.
